Car lifters???????
Hydraulic lifters are the connection between the camshaft(s) and the rocker arms, which force the exhaust and intake valves open and closed. A vehicle with non-hydraulic lifters usually will have a deathly rattle in the engine until it warms up because of the contraction of the two metal parts when they are cold. Cold, they have a small space between them, and as the cam turns and the lowest point pes under the lifter, they lose contact with each other. as the cam continues to rotate, the lobe then clicks against the lifter which in turn forces the valve to open. Hydraulic lifters use engine oil pressure to maintain contact between the rocker and cam regardless of the temperature of the parts-as the parts get hot and esxpand, a piston held in place by oil pressure moves to allow the thermal expansion of the metal pieces without them losing contact with each other. Can bad lifters cause a lose of power? They'd have to be really bad to delay the opening and closing of the valves to cause that.Mostly its a noise issue.
